RCO Point Explanations

RCO Point Explanations

+2 for Men and +3 for Women in RCO Format

Here is a break down on capping the guys at +2 to ensure the RCO format isn’t dominated by the men.  This was adopted by MSVBA/Yankee during the 2022-2023 season.  In addition, the total of the top 3 female player ratings cannot be more than 3 points above the tournament level for any level.

Base Info for Points of Individuals
For purposes of calculating individual and team ratings, each rating level will have a numerical equivalent: A = 9, A- = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, B- = 5, C+ = 4, C = 3, C- = 2, D = 1.

Team Points
The maximum and minimum number of ratings points allowed for each level of competition shall be:

Let’s use the C+ level as an example.

If you do the math for 6 C+ players, it equals 4 points times 6 players which is 24 points.  But our C+ level tournaments are 24 points (base) + 3 which equals 27 points that can be used for a C+ level.  This is where you hear people talk about the team being +3 if they max out their points.

Example 1: Eligible Team

  • Female Player 1: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Female Player 2: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points
  • Female Player 3: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points
  • Male Player 1: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Male Player 2: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Male Player 3: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points

The team is at 27 points and the guys are only +2 which makes this team eligible.

Example 2: Eligible Team

  • Female Player 1: C = 3 points which is -1
  • Female Player 2: B = 6 points which is +2
  • Female Player 3: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points
  • Male Player 1: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Male Player 2: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points
  • Male Player 3: B- = 5 points which is +1

The team is at 27 points and the guys are only +2 which makes this team eligible.

Example 3: Ineligible Team due to men’s pointsFemale Player 1: B- = 5 points which is +1

  • Female Player 2: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points
  • Female Player 3: C = 3 points which is -1
  • Male Player 1: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Male Player 2: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Male Player 3: B- = 5 points which is +1

The team is at 27 points and the guys are +3 which makes this team ineligible.
Example 4: Ineligible Team due to women’s points

  • Female Player 1: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Female Player 2: B = 6 points which +2
  • Female Player 3: B- = 5 points which is +1
  • Male Player 1: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points
  • Male Player 2: C+ = 4 points which is neutral or 0 points
  • Male Player 3: C = 3 points which is -1

The team is at 27 points and the girls are +4 which makes this team ineligible.  This scenario does not present itself often but is not allowed.
