Maine State Volleyball Association (MSVBA) serves over 200 adults in the state of Maine by running sanctioned USAV adult indoor volleyball tournaments from October to April throughout the state. MSVBA wants to see volleyball grow and thrive in the state of Maine, and we love giving back to the local volleyball community, which is why we operate as a non-profit. Area volleyball programs who host an MSVBA tournament receive a charitable donation averaging $700 per tournament (depending on the number of teams that enter the tournament).
Yes, I’m interested in hosting a tournament! What is required?
Host responsibilities:
- Access to your facility from 8:00am to 6:00pm. 2-court facilities (including two full net systems) are preferred
- Day of tournament:
- Nets are set up and ready for match play (including 2 referee stands)
- 3 long tables (1 score table for each court with 3 chairs, and 1 table and chair to greet participants and serve as home-base for the tournament director)
- Access to practice balls for warm-ups and ice for injuries is nice, but not required
- Access to locker rooms/showers are also nice, but not required
- Do you have an active Boosters program or a great group of parents with slow-cooker skills? MSVBA loves concessions! It’s nice, but not required.
MSVBA Responsibilities:

- Scheduling
- Team registration
- Certificate of Insurance (upon request)
- Officials, scorekeepers and linesmen (unless the program volunteers help)
- Game balls
- Exposure to volleyball after college! Adults still love to play and we play HARD
- Most important…a big check made out to your volleyball program!

The Draft
Your timely response is critical!!
The MSVBA Tournament Coordinator (TC) holds a draft before the start of each tournament season. They compile a list of desirable tournament dates (weekends) and email this list to individuals who represent Maine volleyball programs (college programs, high/middle schools, Junior Olympic clubs, town rec departments, etc.). They are asked to check their own facility availability and respond with as many dates as they want. There is a deadline on responses – usually two weeks – exact date will be indicated in the email. Then, the TC assigns dates – this is based on several factors, including geography and number of dates requested, among other things. Some volleyball programs could end up with multiple tournaments if the factors line up in their favor. That said, ample consideration is given to all programs, with no personal preference or favoritism in play. The TC will contact each program to confirm their date(s) before publishing the tournament schedule for the season.
